We were assigned to shoot local athlete Tony Walby, fresh off a win at Judo’s US open, for the cover of Kitchissippi Times. Tony made the national team when he was 16 years old and retired from able-bodied judo 2 years ago, at the age of 36, due to a congenital vision disorder. He was promptly recruited by the Parlaympic committee and will be a medal-hopeful in London this fall.
We thought Westboro beach, with its balanced rock sculptures, would be a great location to showcase Tony’s determination and strength. We also stopped by Takahashi dojo – thanks for being so accommodating, guys! – to shoot a few more of Tony before class started. We also took the opportunity to recruit Tony for project Able.
Tony was a blast to work with and we wish him the best of luck at the Paralympic Games!
